San Juan County Traffic Court Records
Where a ticket lives depends on what it charges. San Juan County Court handles Colorado statutory traffic infractions and traffic offenses, plus misdemeanor traffic cases. Its T-class and related files stay with Samantha Wright. She is Clerk of Court for San Juan County Combined Courts. Silverton Municipal Court keeps town ordinance, municipal traffic, and parking matters. Municipal Clerk Melina Marks runs that docket. A qualifying Department of Revenue penalty assessment is different. It may run through a separate state payment route instead.
Read the heading and the payment or appearance language before you search. A state case can appear in the Judicial Branch Docket Search filtered to San Juan. The Town of Silverton posts no public municipal docket or register. So a town citation goes straight to the municipal clerk. One caution: the Town-linked parking form handles eligible parking payments only. It is not a moving-violation lookup and not a court register.
- T class
- Colorado County Court case class commonly used for state traffic matters.
- Citation
- The notice that identifies the issuer, tribunal, charge, and required response.
- Disposition
- The court outcome, such as payment-based resolution or a ruling after proceedings.
- Register of actions
- The dated court index of settings, filings, and case events.
Start San Juan Traffic Ticket Searches
The best first clue sits on the citation itself. A heading of
points to the Colorado state-court calendar, the state judicial payment system when eligible, and the Combined Courts clerk.
points to the Municipal Clerk and Town Hall instead. And a penalty assessment payable to the Department of Revenue follows the printed instructions on that notice, unless it has been referred to court.
Use the named tribunal: The issuing agency alone does not replace the payment and appearance instructions printed on the ticket.
Two offices on Greene Street keep different records. The courthouse holds state traffic files; Town Hall holds the municipal traffic and parking files.
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
State traffic lookup runs online or straight through the clerk. The free calendar takes several filters. Use San Juan county or location, date, case number, party, or attorney. The Judicial Online Payment portal can search an eligible matter by case number, ticket number, or name. Set Court Location to San Juan first. For a municipal citation, contact the Municipal Clerk, because Silverton offers no public docket portal.
- Read the citation and identify San Juan County Court, Town of Silverton, or the Department of Revenue as the stated channel.
- For County Court, search the statewide calendar by San Juan location, case number, name, and a date range.
- For a payable state case, use the Judicial Online Payment search by case number, ticket number, or name and confirm the matching party.
- If no result appears, call the Combined Courts clerk at 970-387-5790 or contact the counter at 1557 Greene Street.
- For Silverton matters, call 970-387-5522 extension 1, email mmarks@silverton.co.us, or contact Town Hall at 1360 Greene Street.
An eligible state payment can also go by mail. Send a check or money order with the party name and case number. For a filed ticket, disposition, or certified court record, rely on the clerk rather than a payment receipt.
San Juan Traffic Search Fields
Colorado's calendar splits the case number into year, class, and sequence fields. Pick the Sixth Judicial District, San Juan County, and County Court when those filters appear. You need at least one filter beyond date. Name searches work in individual, business, or attorney mode.
| Field | Use | Format Note |
|---|---|---|
| County | Select San Juan | Court location 056 maps to San Juan/Silverton. |
| Court Type | Select County | State traffic matters commonly sit in County Court. |
| Date | Choose range or one date | Add at least one other filter. |
| 4-Digit Year | First case component | Use the year shown on the notice. |
| Case Class | Select T when applicable | Do not change the class printed in the case number. |
| Case Sequence | Final numeric component | Preserve leading zeros from the citation or order. |
Results display 20 entries at a time with printable or export controls. What you get are settings, not the complaint text, the full financial ledger, a filed order, or the complete procedural history.
How to Find Your Traffic Court Date
A citation prints an appearance deadline. A later hearing date is a separate matter. The two are not always the same thing. Check the ticket first, then compare it against the newest statewide calendar result or the municipal notice. San Juan's regular state docket generally falls on the first Thursday. Silverton Municipal Court meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m., barring holidays. Those patterns never override a specific order or the current setting.
| Case Number | Year, class, and sequence, such as 2019T999999. |
|---|---|
| Date and Time | The current scheduled appearance and expected duration when shown. |
| Hearing Type | The reason for the setting, not necessarily a final result. |
| Location | San Juan County or the municipal tribunal printed on the notice. |
| Appearance | In person, virtual, telephone, or blank when the mode is not supplied. |
| Courtroom | Courtroom A commonly identifies County Court settings. |
A virtual link does not authorize remote appearance. Unless the court approves another mode, show up in person. If dates conflict, check the latest order and call the clerk.
Silverton and San Juan Traffic Records
Silverton posts no standalone municipal docket. Municipal Clerk Melina Marks is the primary lookup channel. Call about a town citation at 970-387-5522 extension 1 or mmarks@silverton.co.us. Town Hall counter hours run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
Never substitute the county calendar when a ticket names Silverton. The municipal clerk confirms town sessions and case status. Town Hall does not issue a San Juan County Court disposition.
Protect a San Juan Traffic Date
Before a deadline passes, widen the date search, double-check spelling and case components, and call the right court. A blank web result can mean several things. The citation may not have posted yet. No future setting may exist, the date filter may miss it, or the name may differ. The matter might also belong to Silverton Municipal Court. None of that cancels the obligation printed on the citation.
The Combined Courts office keeps limited local hours. Monday runs noon to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed noon to 1 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday closed. For an urgent state matter when the Silverton clerk is closed, the Judicial Branch directs callers to the La Plata County Clerk of Court at 970-247-2304. Ask that office what help it can provide.
Note: A request for a reset is not an approved continuance. It becomes one only when the court acts and a replacement setting is confirmed.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Payment and contest take different court paths. Colorado DMV says paying a qualifying penalty assessment is an admission. Contesting takes a court appearance on the citation date. There is a deadline too. A penalty assessment payable to the Department of Revenue must be paid or postmarked within 20 days of the violation to stay in that channel. After more than 40 days the ticket has been referred to court, and DMV will not accept payment. The limits don't cover every summons or municipal ticket.
| Pay | Contest |
|---|---|
| Follow only the eligible channel named on the citation or case. | Appear or respond to the named court as the citation directs. |
| Judicial online payment requires a matching eligible case. | The court sets the next procedure or hearing. |
| State in-person payment accepts cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. | Ask the correct clerk about procedure before the deadline. |
| State mail payment uses check or money order with name and case number. | Do not assume a local diversion or course option exists. |
Do not miss the court response: Silverton Code separately addresses failure to appear and bond forfeiture, while unpaid state tickets can trigger distinct court and licensing consequences. Contact the named court to resolve the case and obtain proof of compliance.
San Juan Traffic Payment Checks
The Judicial Online Payment lookup is the place to start. Search by case number, ticket number, or name, and set Court Location to San Juan. The matching case must show as eligible. Payment fields appear only after the case is identified. Anything submitted after 4 p.m. applies on the next business day. A payment plan carries a published $25 annual processing fee per case.
Silverton parking is different. It runs through the Town-linked “Parking Ticket Payment Form” and its “Submit and Pay” control. That form is a payment channel, nothing more. It shows no municipal register of actions. Nor does it show the status of a moving citation. Neither San Juan nor Silverton publishes a separate traffic deferral or driving-course fee. Ask the right clerk before assuming an option exists.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
A traffic court file and a driving record are two different things. Each is kept by a different office. The court file tracks a single citation through its settings, the plea, the outcome, and what money is owed. Samantha Wright holds the state County Court files for San Juan County. Melina Marks keeps the Silverton municipal files. Colorado DMV separately maintains the state driving history. A calendar entry there is neither an official court disposition nor a DMV record.
| Court Traffic Record | Driving Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Combined Courts clerk or Silverton Municipal Clerk | Colorado DMV |
| Shows | Citation, settings, plea, disposition, and court obligations | Credential status, reported convictions, withdrawals, stops, and state history |
| Request | Correct court's lookup or clerk record request | Separate DMV record request channel |
The court file proves what the tribunal did. Use the separate state request only when that distinct record is the one you need.
Wrong Systems for San Juan Tickets
Federal dockets never hold ordinary San Juan County traffic tickets. If your citation names County Court or Silverton Municipal Court, skip the three federal destinations. The Tenth Circuit's official site serves federal appellate cases.
A local citation never enters that docket by itself. It appears only if a separate federal appeal exists under federal procedure. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado maintains bankruptcy cases.
That portal has no bearing on your citation. It covers none of the setting, payment, or disposition in a local traffic case. RECAP describes a nonprofit archive of documents contributed from PACER.
Its federal collection is incomplete. It can never replace either San Juan clerk, and it cannot confirm a traffic court date.
Copies and Fees
Fines and costs vary by citation and case. San Juan publishes no single state traffic fine schedule, no deferred-course fee, and no fixed processing amount for every online payment. Check the live case and checkout instead. Need a filed ticket, disposition, or certified copy? Ask the court clerk for the current record quote.
| Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fine and court cost | Varies | Use the citation and current case. |
| State payment plan | $25 annually per case | Published processing fee. |
| Plain court copy | $0.25 per page | Statewide record schedule. |
| Certified disposition | $20 per document plus copying | Request from the court custodian. |
| Municipal jury request | $25 | Silverton published amount. |
| Municipal court-appearance administration | $100 | Silverton published amount. |
| OHV where prohibited | $300 | Silverton Code entry; verify the current schedule. |
Silverton posts some fee numbers. Witness fees run $5. Juror participation pays $6 per hour. Parking amounts are specific, including $100 for a fire hydrant or fire lane and generally $25 for listed snow-route and restricted-location parking. Confirm all municipal amounts before acting because schedules can change.
Get San Juan Traffic Dispositions
A paid receipt proves money moved. A court disposition states the result in the case. Those are not the same paper. For a state citation, give the Combined Courts clerk the case number. Give the party name and approximate year too. Name the exact item you want. Ask for a plain or certified disposition, plus a cost quote. For a Silverton municipal citation, make the same request to the Municipal Clerk.
State record requests can also go through the Colorado Record/Document Request form. It lists Traffic as a case type. Ticket or Disposition/Sentence Order is among the document choices. Pick San Juan as the location. The form can route your request. But the clerk stays the source for the final record and certification.
Keep the citation, payment proof, and clerk-certified disposition in one file. Each documents a different step in the San Juan traffic case.
